Rajans take first innings lead

By Aubrey Kuruppu

Dineth Lanka (6 for 20) caused Dharmasoka’s batting debacle and ensured a 60 runs lead for the Rajans on the first innings in their drawn game at Lake View yesterday. The visitors were well-placed at 90 for 3 before Lanka struck again and yet again. The Sokians lost seven wickets for a mere 25 runs.

Consistent opener Sasith Gunasekera made 56 and shared a good opening stand with Kavinda Wijekoo, Chamalka Gunasinghe and Romesh Mendis sharing the Rajans wickets.

Sandun Weerakkodi blazed his way to a hundred, second time around. He had 16 fours and two sixes.

Ruwan Bandara cracks 107
An aggressive innings of 107 (171 balls, 14 fours, 2 sixes) by stumper cum opener Ruwan Bandara was the highlight of the drawn inter-school match between Vidyartha and Kingswood at the Peradeniya Campus ground.

Debutant Subash Senadheera also struck a well-compiled 61 in Vidyartha’s total of 219.
Kingswood skipper Yasindu Atukorale made an impressive 43. However, his team was not all that well placed on 112 for 6 when the match came to an abrupt end. Over four hours play was lost due to rain and bad light.

Off spinner Ushan Wickremasinghe had the batsmen on the defensive to claim 4 for 49 in 26 overs.
