A dedicated Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) unit at Criminal Investigations Department (CID), which will work in consultation with Sri Lanka National Intellectual Property Office Director General Dr. D.M. Karunaratne, could become a reality very soon; according to the newly elected President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka, Vijaya Ratnayake.
Adding that his organisation had so far held several awareness programmes for judges, customs and law enforcement officials, etc. in Colombo, Galle, and the North and East and North Central provinces over the last five years; he noted that the next step for IPR in Sri Lanka was the implementation of the relevant law.
This was revealed at an event held on Thursday to announce the organisation’s new board where Mr. Ratnayake which he indicated had just emerged from a "difficult" two year period which saw stagnating membership, etc. Further noting this organisation was "reviving", he said that its next event, in October, would feature Sri Lanka's Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. Sarath Amunugama as its keynote speaker. |
