Different strokes of Children’s Day

World’s Children’s Day -- October 1-- was observed with several events organised islandwide. But it seemed in some instances the events planned had paid little heed to the convenience of the children.
The event organised in Galewela by the Pradeshiya Sabha and Divisional Secretariat was a washout with children and parents getting soaked in the rain.

The public playground where the event was held was one muddy- pool. In Matara the weather was kinder with an event being held at Sujatha Balikawa.

Meanwhile in Puttalam our photographer captured the picture of a 16-year-old getting about his daily chore of selling firewood to help his family eek out a living, irrespective of all the outward hype associated with Childrens Day.
