The Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISL) on Tuesday welcomed a decision by the government to ban metal scrap exports.
In a press release, Federation President Kosala Wickramanayake, who is also Chairman of Project SMED, the small and medium enterprise development arm of the FCCISL, said the decision by the government is a blessing to SMEs in Sri Lanka.
The umbrella chamber works closely with SMEs all over the country and has a good understanding of the challenges faced by the small scale industrialists. “The scarcity of the raw materials has been a major challenge for small scale players mainly in the brass industry and they will be very much relieved with this new development. The intervention of the Industrial Development Board in this regard is highly commendable,” he said in a press release.
