Starting from scratch and reaching great heights in the field of education within a matter of a few years is far beyond one's belief. It's about an institution where national-mindedness with a sense of religious and cultural awareness is inculcated into the child from a young age.

At Vidura College - Colombo a National English Medium School, the child is nurtured in the environment mentioned above. The general tendency of an English Medium School is for the child to acquire an alien culture which pushes the child into the so-called 'sophisticated society', which does not recognize our culture much. But a child studying at Vidura College lives by the accepted norms of our culture.

Nestled a few kilometres away from the bustling city of Colombo, on an eight-acre block at Thalawathugoda is the Upper School of Vidura College. Enhancing the scenic beauty of the premises is a stretch of rubber plantation bordering the premises. The stretch of paddy land belonging to the college is for the purpose of assisting the students in their Horticultural Studies. Buildings are under way to have the Primary Section under the same roof. A prominent feature of the premises is the Nuga tree which has been there for quite sometime and is considered to shower 'BLESSINGS' on the school.

The day of a Vidurian commences by venerating the Bodhi and the shrine built under it. A few weeks ago a beautifully laid out Basket Ball Court and a Netball Court were ceremonially opened. These facilitate the children’s active participation in sports within the college premises - which was a long-felt need. It's a treat to watch children live and actively making use of the newly put up sports grounds.
"Jack of all trades master of none'

So goes the English saying. Refuting the above, here's the unique hand behind it who could be considered as "Jack of all trades master of many" A personification of perseverance, he is none other than the founder Principal of Vidura College - Mr. D.G. Sumanasekara. Here again is a product of Ananda College - Colombo and a once eminent Principal of many a leading school in Colombo - exhibiting the true spirit of Ananda College - "NATIONAL MINDEDNESS". He is also one who can move with kings, but still not lose the common touch. The success behind all this is the positive attitude he adopts in life, and the commitment of the tutorial staff.

Vidura College is his sweetest dream come true, absolutely through his untiring efforts. This I write as a tribute to the Principal, for I feel it's apt to pay a tribute when one is alive rather than posthumously.
