Left arm spinner Supeshala Jayatileke and right arm spinner Rosco Thattil along with right arm pacie Dinal Dambarage guided St. Joseph’s to a thrilling four wicket win over Maris Stella in their Under 19 inter-school cricket match concluded at the FTZ ground in Katunayake yesterday.
The trio led the Josephian fight after their side had conceded a first inning lead to their opponents in the pre-lunch session yesterday and bundled out the Maris Stella batting for the second time around for 82.
The morning session of play on day two saw the Josephians resuming from their overnight score of 83 for 4 after being restricted to 188 which was in reply the home teams’ score of 207 they made on the opening day.
Maris Stella who was having a lead of 19 runs lead found Supeshala, Rosco and Dinal too much to handle. The poor batting also put the three bowlers on top. The Josephians chasing 102 runs for victory in 16 overs reached the target, thanks to a fine 33 by Kevin Bernadus which laid the foundation for their run chase and later Rosco Thattil who made an unbeaten 34 helped them reach the required score with seven balls to spare.
In the process the Josephians are recording their second outright win for the season.
