The country’s newly launched official rowing website, www.rowing.lk, which has the distinction of being the only trilingual sporting association website, is set to be developed even further in order to properly harness the growing interest for the sport, according to Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL) President Rohan Fernando.

Some of these planned improvements include the use of live video feeds from rowing tournaments, and possibly the availability of online forms which enable prospective candidates for a particular competition to register easily.
Since its launch on September 17 the site has set about fulfilling the vital role of wrangling in a spiraling population of competitive rowers as well as rowing enthusiasts. “There is so much potential for rowing in Sri Lanka because there are so many waterways on the island that still haven’t been accessed. What our site can do is provide information to people from these areas about the sport and help them gain a clearer understanding of it,” Mr. Fernando explained.
Rowing.lk also offers a platform for rowers from different locations to identify themselves and interact with each other, thereby forming a large online community. This is done by allowing them to post a profile with information relating to their rowing career or even their minor forays into the sport. Already the site played an integral role at the Nationals competition by providing running updates of results from the event. |
