Tennis star Amritha Muttiah, a student of Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya, became the Sports Star of the year 2010 (Best Sportswoman) at the Western Province Colours Award Ceremony with Chief Minister Western Province Prasanna Ranatunge as chief guest at the BMICH last week.

Amritha’s record is impressive – she won triple crowns at the Sri Lankan Nationals 2010 (Women’s Singles Champion, Women’s Doubles Champion and Mixed Doubles Champion), the SSC Tennis Tournament 2010, and the Colombo Championship 2010.
She also represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, India, the Youth Commonwealth Games held in Pune, India and the World Juniors held in Australia and Indonesia.
By winning the A&F Junior Titles in Myanmar, Jordan and Syria, she became the first Sri Lankan girl to be ranked No. 1 in the Asian region and got the opportunity to play the Australian Open sponsored Junior Masters held in Australia.
Amritha was the first Sri Lankan girl to win the ITF, Under 18 International Tennis Tournament held in Colombo.
