Annual Award Ceremony of the Golden Squares International Chess Association was held at Public Library Auditorium, Colombo 7. There were 560 Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals and 22 Trophies awarded to the winners of Western Province Individual and Team Event in age categories as under 8/9/10/11/12/13/14/15/17/18/20.

Dr. Mrs. M. Maria, Public Relation Officer of the Russian Embassy was the Chief Guest and Ms. Ashoka Lankathilake, Member of Western Province Council, Mr. Buddhapriya Ramanayake, CEO of Russian Centre in Colombo, Mr. Lakshman Wijesuriya, Secretary of Common Wealth Chess Federation and Sri Lankan Chess Federation, Major General Siri Ranaweera, Director of Defence Services College, Mr. Bandula Withanage, Web Master of www.lankachess.com , Mr. L. M. D. Dharmasena, Principal of Ananda College, Mr. Pramuditha Wickremasinghe, Principal of Defence Services College, Mr. N.G. Kariyawasam, Principal of C.W.W. Kannangara Vidyalaya, Mrs. W.B. Kumudunie, Principal of Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Borella, Mr. Sirisena Kusummullage, Chief Librarian of Public Library, Mr. Erosh Jayasinghe, International Arbiter were grace the ceremony as Guests of Honour in this event with about 750 participants.

Ananda College won the Overall Boys School Trophy and Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya, Borella won the Overall Girls School Trophy.
