As the red carpet was rolled out, over 150 Oxford AIBA MBA alumni and friends gathered to celebrate the holiday season Bollywood style! As most critics rated it as the 'MBA party of the year;' this once a year extravaganza took place on December 19 at Clancy's, Maitland Place Colombo 7. The theme was "Bollywood Bash" where everyone came dressed as their favourite Indian celebrity. The event was jointly organized by both past and present students of the AIBA MBA of Oxford College of Business.
With the entire club being decorated to give the feel of an Indian party with 2 in-house DJs and a Live Band entertaining the crowd though the night. The Reunion began with welcome drinks on the Sunday evening. Over the course of the night 150 alumni and guests dropped in to meet the Alumni Office team and, of course, to catch up with old friends and make new ones in the informal surroundings of Clancy's.
The party consisted of so much of fun, exciting gifts and surprises, which differentiated this reunion from any other MBA social gathering. Some of the gifts that were up for grabs included: 2nights' full board accommodation in a 4star resort in Maldives, Blackberry phone, Dialog TV connection, Mobitel broadband connections, gift hampers from Standard Charted Bank, Nestle and Maliban Biscuits, Dinner for 2 from almost all the 5 star hotels in Colombo with each guest receiving a welcome gift courtesy Uni Lever Sri Lanka.
The organizing committee also made it a point to remember the war heroes that sacrificed their lives over the 30 year old war, as the crowd lit candles and marked a two minute silence, which was their way of saying thank you for the freedom that they enjoyed that night. One of the main features of the night was the appointment of the new Oxford-AIBA Alumni members. The new President of the Alumni, Mr. Stephen Anthonisz was unanimously appointed. Furthermore the new alumni members consisted of many prominent names from the corporate world, which has made the Oxford-AIBA Alumni one of the best Alumni Associations in the country.
The new committee consisted of: Stephen Anthonisz (CEO Asian Hotels, VP JKH), Shawn Adams (General Manager, Willaim E Connor and Associates), Roshana Rasheed (Head of Creative, JWT), Shafath Amidon (Director M&S Travels) Ashraf Ahamad (Head of Motor, Amana Takaful), Eardly Kern (Head of Sales and Marketing, Lanka Securities Ltd), Hassen Farzard (Manager, Standard Charted Bank), Sanchitha Uduwavudana (Traning Manager, Ceylon Continental Hotel), Gayan Dharmasena (Assistant Territory Manager, Ceylon Tobbaco), Chathurani Senerath and Tanya Sinhasiri.
Mr. Stephan Antonisz in his opening speech as the newly appointed president talked about continuity and change and how corporate leaders should be quick and ready to adjust to such changing business environments. In his short address he also briefly mentioned about the alumni's future plans which would consists of CPD programmes, charity events, CSR programmes, etc and encouraged all past and present students to join the AIBA Australian MBA alumni facebook page so that everyone would be notified of all future events to enjoy.
