D.S. Senanayake College Colombo 7 a trendsetter among the education institutes in Sri Lanka celebrated its 44th Birthday on February 10 2011 at the main college hall with the participation of many religious devotees, parents, children and well-wishers with an all night "Pirith ceremony" to invoke blessings to the school and bring peace to the nation. It was followed by an alms giving to the members of the clergy and religious activities of all communities took place at the school premises.

D.S. Senanayake College one of the premier educational institutes in Sri Lanka with a short span of history of 44 years was established on February 10 1967 under the stewardship of Mr. R.I.T. Alles. The school gained many achievements of excellence both in the academic and non academic fields locally and internationally. As a truly multi ethnic, multi religious college it has proudly created an unblemished and prestigious record of excellence in academic, sport and community leadership of highly innovative and patriotic individuals to the motherland.

The great success of D.S. Senanayake College is the rapid growth of the school in such a short period of 44 years. It is a parent built school as all funds for development work is contributed by the parents. This is a school in Sri Lanka that has reached great heights in academic and extra-curricular activities during a short period from its inception.

The primary sector of the school which is categorized by the Ministry of Education as a model primary in headed by a highly refined, cultured, motherly and caring lady, Mrs. Nimali Kuruppu. Her unstinted co-operation, guidance, patience, tolerance, personal sacrifice, devotional and inspiring attention towards the children has been appreciated by the staff and parents alike. She has set forth her plans to develop the primary school.

On the 44th Birthday message to the parents the Principal stated that the school would focus attention on a new 5 year plan for the development of academic and extra-curricular activities. With the implementation of the plan D.S. Senanayake College will not be second to any leading schools in the island in producing not only good results in studies, but also in sports. This year we plan to implement the Japanese 5s concept. It will help the school in productive education, consistent quality, cost effectiveness, accuracy in delivery, safety for teachers to work and high in morale.

The activities involved in the Japanese 5s system which would benefit the school will be (A) sorting (B)storing (c) systemizing (D) smartening (E) showing the way. As times change we have to produce citizens to cater to the needs of the dynamic environment and not mere bookworms. With the active participation of the OBA and the School Development Society the new Japanese concept will take its way to improve efficiency in all school activities says the Principal.

D.S. Senanayake College Colombo 7 has all the facilities for the children, swimming pool, gymnasium, playground, a state-of-the-art IT room, a college hall to accommodate 2000 people, in the heart of the city at the best of premises.

The grand vision of the school in the year 2020 includes an Old Boy occupying a leadership position in the UNO, producing a scientific inventor and probably an Olympic medalist. The vision gives prominence to sports and science as essentials for the future. There in no such word called impossible in our school vocabulary says the Principal Mr.D.M.D. Dissanayake.
