In Sri Lanka, out of the students who sit for the A/L examination and succeed, the percentage of students who are privileged to study in a State University is always very low, compared to the percentage of students who pass the examination, but, still fail to enter into a University. This is mainly due to the limited number of State Universities available for them in the country.
These students are left with two options. Either they have to spend a lot of money and study in a foreign University, or they should give up their dream of having University education. It is only a fraction of this student population, who are able to afford to go abroad and study in a foreign university. This is mainly due to lack of finances available for them to spend for their education. There is also another category of students, who are not comfortable in moving away from their families and studying in an unknown country alone. Most of the students who go abroad for their higher education will not return to the country. Therefore, Sri Lanka will not be benefitted at all from the foreign currency drained out of the country in order to educate them.
It is not more than two years, since SAITM Campus started its operations in its spacious, environmental friendly state of the art facility in Malabe. Today, SAITM has nearly 500 students studying for their Bachelors degrees in Medicine, Electronic engineering, Mechatronics engineering, Telecommunication engineering, ICT engineering, Civil & Infrastructure engineering, Business Management, International Management, Business & Marketing, Multimedia, Information Technology and Computer Science.
These courses are offered from four Faculties in affiliation with reputed foreign universities. SAITM has been able to retain a massive amount of Sri Lankan money in the country since its inception. However, the most striking fact is that out of the total student population of SAITM, nearly 30% accounts to students who have come from Australia, United Kingdom, United States of America, Maldives, Canada, New Zealand and Middle-Eastern countries. They are studying here while their parents send foreign currency to our motherland.
SAITM Campus is being monitored by the University Grant Commission of Sri Lanka and complies with its requirements, in student enrollment, staff recruitment, course delivery, etc… In year 2011 January SAITM registered its 4th Batch of students and is proud to announce that the current demand in the market for its degree programmes is very much higher than the highest possible number of seats that SAITM Campus can offer per intake. As a result, the Chairman/President of SAITM Campus, Dr. Neville Fernando, is now investing in another larger state of the art building closer to the campus premises in order to meet the demand in the September 2011 intake.
SAITM invites all students who have Local or London A/L qualification or any other equivalent qualification, to reap the maximum benefit out of all the facilities arranged for them in the campus. These include spacious lecture halls, state of the art laboratories, auditorium, cafeteria, library, gymnasium, internet facilities and student lounge.
Well trained friendly student counselors of SAITM is looking forward to assist its potential students and can be contacted on 011 2413331. Interested parties may also visit their website www.saitm.edu.lk for further information. |
