Ride a Book with Juliet Coombe

Author Juliet Coombe had a novel introduction to the new edition of her book “Around the Fort in 80 Lives” .

The book is a vibrant and eclectic literary journey through the historic Galle Fort, as seen through the eyes of the residents of this fascinating city within a city and in preparation of the launch of the new edition, a one-of-a-kind ‘reading’ took place during this year’s Galle Literary Festival. Visitors to the numerous fringe events were stopped in their tracks by large page numbers situated at various locations within the Fort, along with a note inviting them to sign up for the first ever ‘Book Riding’.

This unique tour led by the author herself guided a group of writers, travel journalists, bloggers and literary enthusiasts, in a procession of trishaws, through the colourful streets and side roads of the Fort, to each of the locations demarcated by the page numbers.

Each place was brought vividly to life by the characters and personalities featured in the book. Each story became a real-world experience for those who took part. The book which personified a journey had now become a journey worthy of being celebrated on the written page.
