The Free Media Movement (FMM) is to hold a protest next week against the arrest of Lanka E-news news editor, Bennett Rupasinghe,
FMM Convenor Sunil Jayasekara told the Sunday Times that Police action in connection with the arrest was unacceptable: instead of taking into custody the main suspect in the Lanka E-news arson case, the Police had arrested the Lanka E-news news editor, charging him with threatening the main suspect’s brother and refusing to co-operate with the Police. Mr. Jayasekera added that neither charge was serious enough to refuse bail.
Mr. Jayasekara said the FMM wants the investigations to be handed over to another Police team. |
