Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a highly successful Australian university offering internationally recognised courses and world-class research opportunities.
QUT has earned a ranking of world standard or above in more than three quarters of its research assessed under the Australian Government's Excellence in Research for Australia assessment framework (ERA 2010). Most notably, QUT received a top rank of 5 in the discipline areas of nursing, communications and media studies, physical chemistry and information systems.

Professor Arun Sharma, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Commercialisation, said these outcomes are validation of the progress QUT has made in building its research capacity, with the University given world-class rankings in more than three-quarters of its research fields.
"For a number of years we have put significant focus and resources into quality research and we can proudly say that QUT is now a hub for a broad range of world-class research,” Professor Sharma said.
Over the past five years, QUT’s research investment attraction has outperformed all other Australian universities, and the development of an AUD$230 million Science and Technology Precinct and Community Hub will ensure QUT's research profile continues to be one of the fastest growing in Australia. The Precinct will facilitate strong research interactions particularly between the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields, and is set to transform the way integrated teaching, learning and research is undertaken at QUT.
The Faculty of Science and Technology is key to QUT’s strategy to be a leader in the development of courses and research in STEM, enabling students to cross disciplinary boundaries and expand their career opportunities. The Faculty’s reputation currently attracts almost 1200 postgraduate students each year, 480 of these are undertaking research and PhD studies, ensuring students benefit from strong practical course components and projects undertaken jointly with industry.
Extending the University’s scope for collaboration beyond the science and the technology disciplines, the Faculty also has a stake in two major research institutes: the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI), and the Institute for Creative Industries and Innovation (iCi).
