‘Malee’ the miniplay depicting the healing power of traditional ayurvedic medicine is one of the top rated teledramas now being telecast from Monday to Friday at 9 pm belt on Derana TV.
Directed by Nimal Ratnayake and produced by Janaka Siriwardena, it stars Duleeka Marapana, Sarath Chandrasiri, Ananda Wickremage, Sanketh Wickremage, Samadhi Arunichaya, Ajith Lokuge, Gamini Hettiarachchi, Sandali Sulakkana, Sathyajith Wedisinghe, Rohani Weerainghe, Sashika Peiries and Shan Bandu Weerasinghe.
Living with her mother Dingiri, Malee hails from a family of Ayurvedic doctors in a remote village. Dingiri learnt medicine from her father and she taught it to her daughter too. Though she had cured a large number of patients who could not be cured though western medicine, her popularity was limited to the remote village where she served.
One day newly appointed Divisional Secretary Nirmal Bandara bitten by a snake is brought to Dingiri and she saves his life. This follows a close friendship with Dingiri’s family and Nirmal also falls in love with Malee.
Meanwhile, Kanishka who promotes his father Rajaratne’s exports including traditional medicines returns to Sri Lanka. A multinational company which comes to know about Dingiri’s medicines with miraculous healing power tries to acquire her knowledge using Kanishka. Kanishka in turn gets a large sum of money. He comes to Sri Lanka and meets Malee and Dingiri. In order to get the secret of Ayurvedic medicine he tries to start an affair with Malee. But the Divisional Secretary Nirmal is a problem to him. The teledrama is to take many turns and twists.
Screenplay written by Sunanda de Silva, art director for the teledrama is Nilantha Ranasinghe, and the camera direction is by Suranjith Kumara. Music is by Janaka Fonseka while Jagath Weeratunga handled the editing. |
