Congestion in the maternity ward of the Kobbekaduwa hospital in Dambulla is causing inconvenience to both pregnant mothers and newborn babies.
There are two to three patients to a bed with more than one infant, while some mothers spend the nights on chairs.
There are 300 to 400 births per month in this hospital.
Even the doctors and other members of the staff undergo much difficulty due to lack of basic facilities.
