Sri Lankan born German, Rajah Ratnasingham Goonasekera who established a mission by the name of ‘Save the Globe’ is set for a Guinness World Record in cycling. Ratnasingham Goonasekera (62) hopes to cycle around the world in five years in order to attain his aim and will kick off his campaign on August 3 from Jaffna.
“I had this wish to cycle around the world to campaign for ‘Save the Globe’ everyone to plant a tree, minimize or stop man made harm to the environment or cycle a kilometer with me for a better world. I’m 62 years-old but strongly believe that I could complete my mission,” Ratnasingham Goonasekera told reporters in Colombo.
Ratnasingham Goonasekera will spend 23 days to cycle around Sri Lanka before he reaches his destination in Colombo. He will be accompanied by a team of cyclists from Jaffna and will be supported en-route by many cyclists at different parts of the world.
“Most who will join me from Jaffna have never seen other parts of Sri Lanka. They will get a glimpse of the hospitality of all ethnic groups in the country. Many have confirmed they will join me at almost all the locations around the world. After completing Sri Lanka I wish to tour the world in five years according to weather pattern and the convenience of leaders in respective countries,” he added.
Ratnasingham Goonasekera hopes to attract the attention of the local authorities on his venture which is spearheaded by his motto ‘speed and solution’. Ratnasingham Goonasekera will cover almost the entire Sri Lanka during his 23-day tour in the country.
