Creating the eco-friendly way

Ever heard of an eco-friendly method of art, called “Burning Art”? This is what art teacher S.M. J. Samarathunga has mastered not just on wood, but on paper too. With this method, he not only paints but does greeting cards.

Art teacher of Galagedara Central College, Samarathunga was trained at Giragama Aesthetic Teachers’ Training College and at Vibhavi Academy of Fine Arts. He also studied fabric painting and pottery painting at the Kandy branch of the National Design Centre and jewellery designing at the Gem and Jewellery Authority.

He has also trained at the Scala Institute of International Artists, in Larnaca (Cyprus). The exhibition will be declared open on Friday August 19 at 6.30 p.m. by Governor Central Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, at the Alliance française Gallery, 642, Peradeniya Road, Kandy. The exhibition continues until August 29, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
