SSC has been invited by Singapore Cricket Club to take part at the second edition of the T20 tournament which will be held in Singapore from August 18 to 21. SSC is sponsored by UFL (Uniting Future Legends), one of the leading apparel manufacturers Alpine creations based in Singapore, a keen supporter of young sportsmen and women around the world who aspire to become tomorrow’s sporting legends. SSC who are the defending champions will leave to Singapore on August 17 to ensure that they defend the championship which they won at the inaugural tournament in 2009.
SSC will be led by Sri Lanka "A" Team captain Kaushal Silva. Samanthe Dodanwela the Chairman of SSC cricket said SSC is somewhat disappointed for not being able to take the full strength as 10 of their players are involved with national and 'A' Team cricket. However, the touring party will consist of experienced and youthful players. “They have the confidence of defending the championship,” said Dodanwela.
Dodanwela also went on to say that this year’s tournament will be more challenging than the previous tournament. “Other countries are also feeding some National players. Melbourne Cricket Club, South African Cricket Academy, and Madras Cricket Club are the other contenders for the championship,” stressed Dodanwela.
SSC will have the services of Sri Lanka national players, such as Thilina Thushara Mirando, Kaushal Lokuarachchi and Thilina Kandambi, who was the vice captain of Sri Lanka one dayers for the tour of England last month. Former Sri Lanka opening bowler Nuwan Soyza and Avishka Gunawardena will also represent SSC.
Dodanwela went on to say: It is a privilege and honour to be invited for the second time to take part in this tournament,” He thanked Mr. Ashok Mahatani, the Founder Chairman of UFL, who came forward to sponsor the SSC Cricketers. The Organizers have also entered into a tie-up with World Sports Group (WSG) which will distribute Live Action and highlight packages to networks in Asia, Australia, North America, Europe and Africa.
Star Hub’s Super Sports Arena will also telecast the matches live, commentated by the former test Cricketers Danny Morrison of New Zealand and Michael Kasprowicz of Australia. |
