Established as a Senior College in the Western Australian Government's Department of Education in 1982, Tuart College has a proud history of providing high quality education programmes to both local, Australian and international students. Since 1987, over 3000 international students have taken advantage of the security that is associated with this government institution.
The College offers two pre-university entrance programmes -- the Western Australian Universities' Preparatory Programme (WAUPP) and the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) Programme. Both are Year 12 programmes providing university entrance or matriculation. At Tuart College, our international students study in classes alongside our local students who make up 80% of our student population.
The WAUPP has been designed to prepare international students to study at university. Success in this programme guarantees a place at a public Western Australian university and is widely recognized by institutions across Australia, including the prestigious "group of 8" universities. Tuart College also offers a range of Bridging courses, including a Year 11 course, allowing international students to upgrade their standard of English and/or their background in academic subjects in preparation for their Year 12 studies.
The College is conveniently situated just 15 minutes north of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia. This modern, vibrant, western-style city of 2 million people is the economic and business heart of the most rapidly developing state in Australia. Current low rates of unemployment in Western Australia make Perth a desirable location for students wishing to take advantage of their ability to work up to 20 hours per week while studying. Perth provides exceptional value giving students a high standard of living at a lower cost compared to both Melbourne and Sydney(Source: Mercer's Cost of Living survey, March 2011) In addition, international students are provided with discounted fares on public transport which provides them with further savings.
In early 2011, The Economist magazine ranked Perth as the 8th most liveable city in the world - high praise indeed. The region has a pleasant Mediterranean climate with cool winters and warm, dry summers - perfect for relaxing by the Swan River or on the idyllic beaches along the Indian Ocean coastline. As a city of migrants, Perth's multicultural character along with its relaxed atmosphere provides a friendly and welcoming environment for international students.
