Green to Blue for want of top slot

The candidate who opted out from the United National Party (UNP) list for the forthcoming elections to the Dehiwala-Mt Lavinia Municipal Council (DMMC) and joined the government side, had demanded the top slot, former Mayor Sunethra Ranasinghe said.

She said Krishantha Molligoda, was furious, after his demand was turned down, and walked out threatening that he would campaign to defeat the UNP at the October 8 polls, adding that he had wide support in the electorate.

He also claimed that he had spent some Rs. 3.5 million on the electorate in pre-election work, which qualified him to be placed number one on the list, Mrs. Ranasinghe added.

“This is not possible, since there are so many senior persons who have remained loyal to the party at all times, and that includes myself” , she said.

“Furthermore, he spends most of his time in Anuradhapura, where he operates a foreign job recruiting agency and has little time for the DMMC electorate,” she added.
