The article that appeared in the Business Times last week under the above headline had a few inaccuracies with relation to numbers. Readers from Jaffna have pointed out that the present population of the Jaffna Peninsula is 650,000 and the two million residents referred to by K. Poornachandran, Chairman, Chamber of Commerce and Industries of Yarlpanam, was before the conflict began.
The reference to 200 investors mentioned in the aforesaid article, should have read as 200 stall holders at the 2010 exhibition though Mr Poornachandran now tells us that all these exhibitors have promised to invest in Jaffna.
Readers said the chamber’s claim of 50% of the people in the region being affluent was also not incorrect. The Business Times thanks readers who brought these inaccuracies to our notice.
