Trinity, after their impressive performance during the 2010/2011 Under 19 inter-schools cricket season where they came out as the top team in the league and knockout tournaments, continued their dominance by recording two outright wins.

Trinity began the season with a draw against Mahanama and then chalked up back-to-back wins over St Aloysius Galle and hometown rivals Kingswood. They won both the matches by an innings with the first win being by an innings and 110 runs, while the win against Kingswood was by an innings and 27 runs.

The other teams to record outright wins were St Joseph’s, S. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia and Devananda College Ambalangoda. St Joseph’s began their season on a winning note when they crushed Isipathana by an innings and 22 runs.

S. Thomas’, who began the season with a draw against Dharmapala, saw the winning post in their next match against Mahinda, whom they defeated by five wickets while Devananda too coasted to an innings and 102 runs win over Kegalu MV.

However, the Thomians in their win against Mahinda felt the shudders when they lost five wickets to reach their winning target of 14 runs.

Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa played two matches against St Anthony’s and Thurstan which both ended in a draw while the same result occurred in the matches between Ananda and Mahinda, Dharmapala and Isipathana, Zahira and St Benedict’s, Nalanda and Isipathana and Ibbagamuwa Central against St Thomas Matale. Trinity’s Dinuk Wickremanayake had the honour of making the first ton of the season when he made 105 against Mahanama in their very first much of the season. He followed it up with another knock of 86 against St Aloysius.

Dharmapala’s opener Ashan Jayasanka will be a batsman to keep an eye on as he has been in fine form so far. Ashan made back-to-back tons when he made 130 against S. Thomas’ and then followed it up with a knock of 111 against Isipathana.

Rishane Mathangaweera of S. Thomas’ is turning out be a fine allrounder. He has been successful with both bat and ball. In the first match that the Thomians played against Dharmapala, Rishane cracked an unbeaten 117 and in the next match against Mahinda he ended with impressive figures of 8 for 27, which paved the way for a Thomian victory.

The other centurions in the matches played so far are Sadeera Samarawickrema of St Joseph’s (138) against Isipathana, Kavindu Kulasekera of Thurstan (151) against Joseph Vaz and Ishan Rangana of Nalanda (113) against Isipathana.
