City of Kandy gets a boost

Sri Lanka Tourism will be conducting a promotional campaign and an exhibition in Kandy with the intention of showcasing and promoting the city as a key attraction. The Tourism Promotion and Trade Exhibition is scheduled to be held from November 10 - 13 on the 4th floor at the Kandy City Centre, the state agency said.

Visit Kandy-2011 is a single component among the many strategies adopted by the government to promote Sri Lankan Tourism globally. The exception accorded to Kandy is mainly due to its unique and rich historical and cultural significance that is attached to the city and its surroundings. The UNESCO heritage city of Kandy, Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of Tooth, the Kandy Perahara, Kandy Lake, Bahirawa Kanda, Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and the UNESCO heritage buildings have become tourist attractions since the colonial era.

Based on these unique features, Sri Lanka Tourism, together with the Economic Development Ministry, the Central Province Chief Minister and Ministries of Tourism, Regional Economic Development agency and other government institutions intend to showcase the Kandyan experience to the world through the Visit Sri Lanka 2011 campaign.

Over 75 hotels, restaurants and other institutions will participate at this exhibition with Kandyan cultural performances, displays and many other events expected to attract visitors.
