S. Thomas’ record fourth outright victory

Under 19 Cricket

S. Thomas’ recorded their fourth outright win in the ongoing Under 19 inter-school cricket season when they defeated St. Aloysius Galle by eight wickets at Mt Lavinia yesterday. S. Thomas’ were sitting pretty and were in a strong position when play stopped for lunch as they had their opponents, resuming from their overnight score of 29 for no loss, struggling on 130 for 6.

The win for the Thomians was initiated by left arm spinner Dilum Fernando who ended with impressive figures of 4 for 21 to bowl them out for 154. This left the Thomians a target of 112 runs to win which they reached in the 27th over.

Zahira too recorded their fourth outright win of the season which was also an eight wicket victory over Sri Sumangala Panadura at Zahira ground, Maradana.

The architect of their win was left spinner Pradeep Ananda who had a match bag of 13 for 102. Pradeep took five wickets in the first inning and followed it up with figures of 8 for 43. The second day’s play saw Sri Sumanagala, resuming from their first inning on 125 for 8, being bowled out for the addition of of 19 runs for 144. Made to follow on with a deficit of 138 runs, they ended by making a respectable 233.

St. Joseph’s powered by a knock of 93 by Vidusha Jayasinghe and an unbeaten 63 by Supeshala Jayatileke recorded a first inning win over Maris Stella in the high scoring match concluded at Darley Road yesterday.

St. Joseph’s resuming from their overnight score of 5 for 1 made a formidable 290 for 9 in reply to Maris Stella’s 276. At Ananda Mawatha Wesley took major honours in the match against Ananda.
