Champion Indian rider K.P. Aravind who led the TVS Racing Team for several triumphs at the recent motor cross meets in Sri Lanka was adjudged the Champion Rider at the SLARDAR Awards Night in Colombo.
Aravind who along with his team-mate C.S. Santhosh represented TVS Racing in the Group MX & SX 125cc - 2T and up to 250cc - 4T class. Aravind bagged top honours at this year’s Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) annual awards night and in the process bagged one of the four main awards on offer.
“The Racing Throttle Response or RTR Technology has proven to be one of the best engines that have the power to perform and the durability to be strong in any rough terrain,” explained team official Geethal Anthony.
Championship winner, Aravind finished with 73 points after a grueling season in the absence of Sri Lanka’s ace rider Gayan Sandaruwan who was ruled out of the races due to an injury. Aravind who hails from Bangalore, became the first Indian rider to win a motocross championship away from home, “The experience in Sri Lanka was remarkable,” said Aravind.
“I have learnt a lot in Sri Lanka during the two seasons. It was a huge platform for me to fine tune my riding skills. I have bettered my skills as a MX racing rider after my Sri Lankan experience. Winning the top award at the SLARDAR Championship 2011 is a silver feather on my cap,” added Aravind after his feat in Colombo.
Aravind, who fought off 21 riders, including teammates C.S. Santosh, H.K. Pradeep, Sri Lankan hero Gayan Sandaruwan and the 2010 UAM Asian champion from Japan, Tomoya Suzuki, for the title also won a fully-paid trip to watch the Dakar rally later this year. Aravind who eyes the Asian Championship said he wishes to continue to race on the challenging motor cross tracks of Sri Lanka for some seasons. |
