By M. Shamil Amit

Right hand batsman Perinparajah Brinthapan came to the rescue of St John’s Jaffna with a knock of 33 enabling his side to make a decent score of 124. This was after St. John’s resumed on their overnight score of 83 for 9 on day two against S. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter played at St. John’s ground in Jaffna.

Brinthapan’s knock of 33 comprised three boundaries and a six but it was a match saving knock as he along with Vivekanandarajah Hariharan added a useful 43 runs for the last wicket when the Johnians was struggling on 81 for 9.

This was in reply to the Thomians formidable score of 271 for 7 declared which came on the back of half tons from Thilaksha Sumanasiri and Rishane Mathangaweera while Johnian left arm spinner returned top figures of 4 for 84.

The Johnians made to follow on with a deficit of 147 runs went into lunch with the score on 67 for 3 needing a further 80 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
