Kanchana, Hasantha and Shehan put Moors on top

Openers Kanchana Gunawardena and Shehan Jayasuriya along with Hasantha Fernando slammed half tons to put Moors on top against Colts in their Premier Tier ‘A’ limited over encounter played at Braybrooke Place.

Kanchana and Shehan gave Moors a sound start of 119 with the former cracking 79 with five boundaries and a six while Shehan made 53 inclusive of five boundaries. Later Hasantha made quickfire knock of 54 in just 35 balls which included four boundaries and three sixes as Moors taking first lease of the wicket, made an imposing score of 257 for 9.

NCC bowling trio comprising of left arm spinner Sohan Boralessa and the right and left pace combination of Kosala Kulasekera and Thilina Thushara ran through the Badureliya CC batting to bundle them out for 121 in the match played at the NCC ground. Badureliya CC taking first lease of the wicket fell into deep trouble as they lost their top five batsmen with the score just on 54. But some sensible batting by Alankara Asanka who made an unbeaten 57 saw them survive to make a score of 121.

SSC despite a knock of 63 coming from Dhanushka Gunatileke underwent some anxious moments before they recovered to make a score of 208 against Lankan CC in the match played at the SSC ground.

At the Colts ground Ragama CC were bundled out for a meager 99 by Chilaw Marians. Ragama CC skipper Kaushalya Weeraratne winning the toss and electing to bat were made to struggle for their runs.

At the completion of the 13th over they were reeling on 50 for 5 but never recovered as they lost their remaining five wickets for the addition of only 49 runs.

Right hand batsman and openers Hashan Goonetileke shone for Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) in their Premier Tier ‘B’ encounter against Kurunegala YCC at the Welagedera Stadium in Kurunegala.
SLPA skipper Shantha Kalavirtigoda winning the toss and electing take first lease of the wicket made a modest score of 243. Hashan’s knock comprised 12 boundaries and a six and he put on a 78 runs stand for the third wicket with Tharindu Mendis. Apart from that no other significant contributions came from the late order batsmen but they managed to make a challenging score for the KYCC to chase.
At Panagoda table leaders in Group ‘A’ Navy after being given a solid start of 92 runs by openers Dilan Chandima and Gayas Christopher faltered in the latter stages of the innings and were restricted to 196 by Army in the morning session of play.

It was right arm spinners Roshan Jayatissa and Manjula de Zoysa who did the damage as the duo combined to share eight wickets between them with Jayatissa ending with impressive figures of 5 for 37.

A 79 ball knock of 81 with 12 boundaries and two sixes by BRC skipper Nimesh Perera (jnr) against CCC was the highlight of the match at the CCC ground. Nimesh along with Thamara Abeyratne added 91 runs for the third wicket which helped BRC winning the toss and electing to bat, to make 201.

Half tons by Amila Sandaruwan and Lahiru Sri Lakmal who together put on a valuable 108 runs for the third wicket enabled Saracens SC make a score of 247 against Police in the match played at the Police Park.
