The Colombo Chief Magistrate and the Nugegoda Magistrate, in cases filed by the Commercial Crime Division of the CID, have fined four electrical shops in Pettah and Nugegoda for selling fake KDK ceiling fans to customers. Three shops in Colombo were charged with selling, displaying for sale or having in their possession for sale fans falsely bearing the KDK trade name so as to mislead the customers.
They were fined Rs. 25,000 each by the Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli on pleading guilty to the charges. In another case, the Nugegoda Magistrate Anura Kumara Herath imposed a fine of Rs. 100,000 on a Nugegoda trader on the similar charges. The accused undertook to pay the fine on or before January 13. The CID initiated the investigations and raided the traders on complaints made by Elite Radio & Engineering Co, (Pvt) Ltd, 35, Nawala Road, Narahenpita, Colombo 5, sole distributors for KDK fans of Japan. |
