P.D. Fernando this week took over as Director-General of the Commerce Department from Gomi T. Senadhira who retired in November after 32 years in service, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said in a statement. "It has been a rewarding experience," Mr Senadhira, who joined the Department of Commerce in 1979, said in the Ministry statement.
He is the only Sri Lankan to be appointed to the Geneva based High Level WTO Committee on Trade Development.
The new Director General of Commerce, Mr Fernando also has over 32 years of experience in the Department which includes overseas postings in Sri Lankan missions in Karachi, Japan, Germany, and Brussels as a trade commissioner, and in Dubai and Sydney as the Consul General for Sri Lanka. Before joining the department of commerce in 1979, he has served in Sri Lanka Customs from 1976 - 1979. |
