Colts outclass Ragama CC with a day to spare

By M. Shamil Amit

Colts for the second time in two weeks secured an outright win in two days when they outclassed Ragama CC by an innings and 192 runs in the Premier Tier ‘A’ encounter at the Colts ground yesterday and in the process coasted to their third outright win.

Harsha Cooray of Chilaw Marians in action.

It was a pathetic batting display by Ragama CC as they succumbed to the pace combination of Chathura Peiris, Chathuranga Kumara and Ishan Jayaratne in the first innings and then to the spin combination of Sajeewa Weerakoon and Dilruwan Perera in the second innings.

Bloomfield crushed Lankan CC by an innings and 72 runs in their Premier Tier ‘A’ encounter at Reid Avenue yesterday and in the process recorded their second outright win of the tournament.
The writing on the wall was there for Lankan CC who was 48 for 1 after being made to follow on when play ended on the second day. They were bowled out for 208 in reply to Bloomfield’s massive 450 in the first innings.

At the commencement of the final day’s play they had another 194 runs deficit to save them from an innings defeat. But were unable to achieve the target as right arm off spinner Suraj Randiv wrecked them with a seven wicket haul to bundle the opponents for another low score of 170 with play ending before the lunch break.

The high scoring match between Tamil Union and Moors at P. Sara Stadium saw the latter falling short by 27 runs. Moors resuming from their overnight score 386 for 5 made 492, Chilaw Marians was on top against NCC at the NCC grounds when play stopped on the second day.
