Right arm spinner Dilruwan Perera guided Colts to a magnificent 43 runs victory over Chilaw Marians in their Premier Tier ‘A’ encounter at the Colts ground yesterday.
Dilruwan’s impressive figures of 6 for 39 saw Chilaw Marians chasing a simple target of 152 runs reeling to 108. It was a great comeback by Colts as Chilaw Marians dominated the proceedings on the first two days.
In fact Colts was not in with a chance of winning the game outright after having conceded a first inning lead to the Marians before the match winning performance of Dilruwan turned the tide towards the home team.
In fact it was skipper Malinda Warnapura who made the early break through for Colts when he grabbed two wickets in his two overs and the fourth of the match.
From there on Chilaw Marians never recovered as wickets began tumbling like nine pins. The bowlers’ domination was such that the strong Marians batting fumbled and was struggling with five of their top batsmen back in the pavilion with only 18 runs on the board.
A partnership of 37 runs for the sixth wicket between Umesh Karunaratne and Malinda Pushpakumara was the only resistance that they could offer as they were bundled out for a meager 108 with the innings lasting just 26.4 overs.
The win saw Colts coasting to their fourth outright win of the tournament to come out on top in the points table.
Angelo Perera and Jehan Mubarak cracked unbeaten tons to put NCC on top after left arm spinner Sohan Boralessa steered NCC’s fight back against Moors at Braybrooke Place. Sohan’s match figures of 5 for 47 helped NCC who was bowled out 180 to restrict Moors resuming from their overnight score of 57 for 3 to a score of 134.
Later Angelo made a quick fire 109 in just 116 balls with nine boundaries and four sixes and Jehan made 107 with 12 boundaries as the pair put on an unbroken 201 runs stand for the fourth wicket helping NCC end day two on 237 for 3. The match will be continued today.
