The Bank of Ceylon (BOC)-owned Grand Oriental Hotel (GOH) which was to be refurbished two years ago will be upgraded by late next year, according to officials.
"Currently we're studying all possibilities such as whether to refurbish it by ourselves, or to hand it over to another party. But we're targeting to complete refurbishing GOH by November 2013," a BOC official, speaking on the basis of anonymity, told the Business Times.
He said that this property, which has some 100 rooms, of which 76 are operational, was eyed by many interested parties two years ago. "We want to add the BOC branch adjoining the hotel which will come to some 1.5 acres. The entire refurbishment will cost about Rs. 5 billion," he added.
He added the biggest issue is finding space for the BOC branch staff and also the age-old vaults at the bank.
