St. Peter’s were guided to the final of the Under 19 inter-schools T20 final by skipper Shehan Fernando who cracked 71 and Ranitha Liyanaarachchi who ended with a four wicket haul which helped them to overcome St .Sylvester’s by six runs in the second semi final played in the evening session.
St. Peter’s invited to take first lease of the wicket was given a resounding start by openers skipper Shehan and Shasheen Fernando who were associated in a valuable 82 in 70 balls stand before the dismissal of Shasheen for a 32 ball knock of 34 which had two boundaries and two sixes.
Shehan after being joined by Lahiru Milantha continued the good work with adding 50 runs for the second wicket. Lahiru’s dismissal saw the Peterites go for quick runs and lose four wickets with the score on 150 before ending their innings for 153 which included Shehan’s knock which comprised five boundaries and three sixes.
St. Sylvester’s chasing the daunting task of 154 runs for victory underwent an early set back when they lost two wickets before the end of the third over with just five runs on the board.
A brief stand of 35 runs between Harsha Madushan and Sumeda Dissanayake came to an end with the Sylvestrians struggling on 40 for 3. From there on skipper Ruwantha Ekanayake and Harsha took control with the pair having their own way.
They frustrated the Peterite bowlers and put up the 50 run stand in even time before Harsha was dismissed for a well compiled 42 which included three boundaries and three sixes.
But the Sylvesterians had a fair chance of pulling off the game and the dismissal of skipper Ruwantha who made 46 with five boundaries and a six saw them falling back.
