Colombo Football Club crowned themselves with Silver but not before they were severely jolted by Premier Sports Club in the final of the centenary year final of Colombo Football League a the City Football Complex. At the short whistle the scores were deadlocked at one all and at the final whistle both side had scored two goals each. However, in the penalty shoot out Colombo FC edged Premier SC by 5-4.
In the 15th minute of play, Colombo FC missed a golden opportunity when they failed to score. However, in the 33rd minute centre forward H.N. Kanishka latched onto a pass from midfield M.C. Chamnida to set the CFC chatanooga moving. But one minute later, Premier SC drew blood when the Maldivian duo of A. Adam and Nawwaff Abdulla got their act to equalize.
In the 58th minute, mid field Neelanga Weerasooriya got his boot onto the ball to give Premier SC their second goal and the lead. With the minutes ticking off many CFC hearts skipped a beat, but three minutes before no time, mid field T.R.T. Fahath worked himself past the Premier SC defense and forward M.K.M. Rifnath gave CFC breathing space with the equalizer.
In the penalty shoot out, Colombo FC came out winners by 5-4 and with it completed a hat-trick and made the Silver Cup their private property.
The goal scorers for CFC in the penalty shoot out were, M.S. Jain, M.C. Chamninda, A.M. Shazny the skipper, T.R.T. Fahath and K.G. Grero. While Ruwan Chanaka, P.S. Vijasan and M.A.S. Sudesh scored for Premier SC
The team was coached for the third successive year by former Sri Lanka and Air Force cap M.H. Roomy who has made the team something to be reckoned with since he took over the side three years ago.
While the main power behind the throne is the Chief Executive of Expo Lanka, Saif Yoosuf a football fanatic who lives and breathes the game of soccer.
The game was controlled by A. Tharanga Kumara.
The chief guest was Hurley Silveira, the President of the Colombo Football League.
The winners received the handsome Silver Cup, cash award of Rs. 15,000/- and replicas, while Premier SC also received a trophy, Rs, 10,000/- and replicas. (BM). |
