The Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) of Sri Lanka will conducted its Annual General Meeting for the year 2012 on March 31 at Royal College, Colombo. The elected committee for the 2011/2012 years was unanimously selected for the period 2012/2013; as Aubrey Peiris continue as the president of ABA for yet another term. Mahesh Dahanayake will continue as the secretary while M.T.M. Safrak will continue as the assistant secretary. General Jagath Jayasuriya and Herbert Embuldeniya will continue as vice presidents.
The only change that occurred among office bearers was of the treasurer’s post which was filled by Ruwan Keragala of Unichela Boxing Club. Dilhara Seimon will continue as the assistant treasurer. During the past eight months, since the selection of the committee for the year 2011/2012 in June last year, the ABA has held five senior tournaments and four schools competitions. This year the ABA officials have decided to exceed national competitions to five days instead of four days due to the increased participation, especially from armed forces.
The ABA assures of carrying out its duties as the governing body of boxing though none of the pugilists managed to qualify for the London Olympics. However the new ABA committee said it is committed to improve standards of Sri Lanka Boxing and are determined to produce an Olympic medal. - NA |
