Creating a platform to showcase the talent of the differently abled youth - the Sunera Foundation will organise a drama festival with a difference in May.
Fulfilling the need to facilitate the integration of this marginalized community into main-stream society through the medium of performing arts, the Sunera Foundation, has taken the initiative to organize ‘Colourful Expressions’- a drama festival featuring theatrical pieces put together by its differently-abled workshop participants.
The objective of the show will be to create a platform for Sunera Foundation workshop participants in various parts of the country to showcase their acting and dancing skills, while raising awareness about disability as well.
The drama festival, which takes place in four regions, will kick off with the performances of Sunera workshops in Thalawa, Anuradhapura, Kekirawa and Rajanganaya being held on May 3, at the Co-operative Hall in Anuradhapura at 3 p.m. Participants attached to the Negombo and Horagolla workshops will perform at Rukmani Devi Memorial Hall Negombo on May 11 at 3p.m, while those attached to workshops in Kurunegala, Nikaweratiya, Kobeiygane and Horombawa will perform on May 18 at the Kurunagala Town Hall at 2 p.m.
The performances of the Badulla, Welimada and Bandarawela workshops will be held on May 25 at the Badulla Town Hall from 5 p.m onwards. Colourful Expressions is sponsored by the US Embassy, Colombo. Entrance to all four performances are free of charge and all are welcome to attend this event as the Sunera workshop participants display their creative abilities. |
