The Central Bank (CB) in a bid to uplift the small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SME) in the country this week brought together 35 beauticians for a workshop as a part of an awareness campaign for bettering their prospects.
M.S. Dharmawardena, Additional Director Regional Development Department, CB told the Business Times on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony that with increasing awareness of beauty and fitness, many women are opting for beauty as a career option, which is why CB had identified this as a potential area for growth.
“Those looking for a full-fledged and rewarding career in cosmetology can take up beauty courses. This field is effectively equipped with both institutes imparting training in beauty therapy and beauty parlours, and also run training programmes for the aspiring candidates,” he said. Speakers at the seminar noted that the profile of a beautician has changed tremendously in the last decade or two and that their profession isn't about working in a tiny little parlour all their lives.
“The kind of places they get to work in nowadays is quite amazing,” Asoka Handagama, Director Media CB said, adding that it’s a little wonder then - that there are so many aspirants wanting to join the beauty profession.
He added that there's plenty of scope for beauticians with the growth in the economy. He also added that film stars, models, beauty pageants, wanna bees, have beens, etc - not one of them would have a career in the glam world - if it wasn't for beauticians. |
