A top international aviation conference in Colombo this week will scrutinize recent airline accidents and seek to enhance investigation capabilities, among other issues. The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAA) said it will be hosting the 3rd Meeting of the Asia Pacific Accident Investigation Group (APAC AIG/3) and ICAO Regional Accident Investigation Workshop, Asia and Pacific Regions- 2015. The event, part of the calendar of ICAO meetings, will be held in Colombo on June 23-26 starting at 9 am on the opening day at the Ramada Hotel, Colombo. Some 49 foreign delegates from 19 countries (including Sri Lanka) will be attending this ICAO meeting. The Regional Officer Flight Safety of the ICAO Bangkok Regional Office will be representing the Regional Director. Sri Lanka will be represented at the AIG Meeting by a 3-member delegation from the CAA and 30 delegates from the CAA and the local industry will attend the workshop, the CAA media release said. The AIG Meeting and the Regional Workshop will be held under the annual event calendar of the Asia and Pacific Regional Office of ICAO. The meeting will take place on the first two days followed by the workshop on last two days. The Chairman of the Accident Investigation Group will be the Director of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau of Singapore. “The purpose of both events is to assist the states in keeping abreast of developments in the area of aircraft accident investigation, enhance and promote investigation capabilities and share expertise, experience and information among accident & incident investigation bodies,” the release said. Shibly Aziz, Chairman of CAA, Sri Lanka will be attending the opening session as the Chief Guest. This regional event is organized by Parakrama Dissanayake, Senior Director of CAA under the direction given by the DGCA.
