Ceylinco Life this week launched the search for the next batch of 160 young Sri Lankans that will be rewarded with scholarships totaling more than Rs 11 million under the 21st edition of the company’s ‘Pranama Scholarships’ programme.
The company said in a media release that it is currently accepting applications for these scholarships under four categories from children of policyholders that have excelled in academics and extracurricular pursuits, and will continue to do so until applications close on 30th April 2022. The ‘Pranama’ Scholarships presentation is expected to take place in July this year. Ceylinco Life has amended the programme’s usual timelines to accommodate the delays in the conduct of national examinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ceylinco Life’s ‘Pranama scholarships’ scheme has to date disbursed a total of Rs. 167 million and benefitted 2,887 students. With the latest edition of the programme, the life insurance leader will take this total to Rs. 178 million and the beneficiary numbers to 3,047.
Ceylinco Life’s ‘Pranama scholarships’ programme rewards academic as well as extra-curricular achievements with cash prizes for those who achieve the best results in their respective districts at the year 5 Scholarship examination, the GCE Ordinary Level and the GCE Advanced Level as well as for children who excel at an international and national level in sports, arts, invention or creativity.
The 21st ‘Pranama Scholarships’ programme will reward 25 students who excelled at the 2021 Year 5 scholarship examination with Rs.120,000 each, payable in instalments over five years. Another 25 students who excelled at the 2020 G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examinations will each receive Rs. 84,000, payable monthly over two years, while 25 students placed 1st in their districts at the 2020 G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations will receive scholarships worth Rs. 144,000 each, payable over a three-year period.
Additionally, the 25 Advanced Level students placed first in their districts will each receive a tablet computer from Ceylinco Life.
Furthermore, one-time payments of Rs. 30,000 each will be presented to 75 students placed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in their districts at the 2020 GCE Advanced Level examination.
Another 10 students who have excelled in sports, drama, invention or creative fields in 2020 and 2021 on a national or international scale will be presented merit awards, each to the value of Rs. 35,000.
