The Colombo Tea Auction saw 5.58 million kg of tea on offer this week with 2.45 million kg of Low Grown Main Grades and 1.93 million kg of High and Mid Grown Main Grades, the Asia Siyaka Tea market report stated.
In the Leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues few select best BOP1/OP1s maintained, whilst others and best varieties declined substantially. Teas at the lower end maintained. Select best FBOPF1s gained, whilst corresponding FBOPs maintained.
Best/improved below best varieties were fully firm to dearer. In the Premium Flowery catalogues, well-made very tippy teas appreciated substantially, whilst poorer sorts were easier.
Improved demand was seen at this week’s ex-Estate auction. Western BOP/BOPFs with improving seasonal quality gained Rs.50 to Rs.100 and more on special inquiry; below best and other BOPs were firm to slightly dearer and the BOPFs gained Rs.20 to Rs.50. Nuwara Eliya BOPs were firm to dearer and the BOPFs were dearer. (SD)

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
