Colombo tea auction of 6 m kg met with fair demand this week

The Colombo Tea auction this week recorded 6.02 million kg on offer with 2.44 million kg from Low Grown Main Grades and 2.20 million kg from High and Mid Grown Main Grades.

The Low Growns met with fair demand and in the Leafy grade catalogue select best OP1s sold at dearer rates, whilst below best and others were firm, the Asia Siyaka report stated. OPs were fully firm on last week levels.

Well-made OPAs sold at lower rates, whilst others were firm to dearer. In the Semi Leafy catalogues BOP1s were firm.

Well-made shotty Pekoe / Pekoe1s held firm, below best varieties gained in value. In the Tippy Small leaf select best FBOP1 and FBOPs were fully firm on last week levels, whilst others sold at dearer rates, it was reported. FBOPF1s appreciated in value all-round. FBOPFs met with good demand.

Improving seasonal Western BOPs were dearer Rs.30 and more on special inquiry. Their BOPFs also gained upto Rs.20. Other Western BOP/BOPFs were irregularly lower Rs.20 to Rs.30. Nuwara Eliya BOP / BOPFs were barely steady. Udapussellawa BOP/BOPFs tended lower Rs.10 to Rs.20. Clean Uva BOPs lower upto Rs.30, whilst others and the BOPFs lower upto Rs.20. Selected Medium BOP and BOPFs maintained, whilst others were irregularly lower upto Rs.30. CTC BP1s were firm on last, whilst PF1s were irregularly lower upto Rs.30.
