There was fair general demand at the Colombo Tea Auction this week with the total on offer similar to the previous week’s 5.4 million kg. Low Growns comprised 2.2 million kg.
Ex-Estate offerings were fairly similar to last and totaled 0.78 million kg. Overall the quantity showed a decline, particularly for the seasonal quality Westerns, brokers said.
Western BOP’s declined substantially whilst the corresponding BOPF’s too were mostly Rs.50-100 per kg easier. In the Below Best category, BOP/BOPFs declined Rs.20-40 per kg and more as the sale progressed and a similar trend continued for teas at the lower end of the market as well.
High and Medium Grown CTC teas – BP1’s had hardly any offerings, whilst the PF1’s which commenced firm to marginally easier declined further as the sale progressed with many invoices remaining unsold. (SD)
