The countrywide fuel shortage is continuing indefinitely with five oil tankers stuck at the Colombo Port due to non-payment for shipments owing to the US dollar scarcity at present, Energy Ministry sources revealed.
A dollar crisis has affected payments for fuel imports since late March, considerably reducing supplies.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has intermittently curtailed fuel distribution while introducing fuel rationing systems for petrol stations countrywide in recent weeks.
It has paid over US$ 50 million as demurrages for fuel shipments due delays in clearing at the port during the past six weeks. (Bandula)
