Hayleys Leisure has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Skål Sustainable Tourism Award in the category of Accessible Tourism, a recognition that reaffirms the sector’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable hospitality practices that create lasting value for both guests and communities.

The Skål Sustainable Tourism Awards are among the industry’s most respected global platforms, spotlighting best practices in sustainable travel. This year’s competition drew 106 entries across eight categories, reviewed by a panel of international experts in tourism and sustainability. Each entry was evaluated on strict criteria, with results compiled by the Skål International General Secretariat and verified by its Senior Auditors. The award was presented at the Opening Ceremony of the 84th Skål World Congress held in Cusco, Peru, where global leaders in travel and tourism gathered to celebrate innovation and responsibility in the industry.

In addition to the award, Hayleys Leisure will benefit from support provided by strategic partners. Biosphere Tourism and the Responsible Tourism Institute will extend a one-year subscription to the Biosphere Sustainable platform, enabling the Group to strengthen its long-term sustainability planning. Meanwhile, Sustainable Travel International will offer a one-year Guardian-level membership, expanding Hayleys Leisure’s engagement with the global sustainable travel community.

The recognition underscores Hayleys Leisure’s alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those addressing inclusive education, social inclusion and sustainable economic growth. Through continuous innovation and community engagement, the Group has positioned itself as a driving force in reshaping Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry into a model of inclusivity, resilience and sustainability.

Founded in 1934, Skål International is one of the world’s largest global networks of travel and tourism professionals, dedicated to promoting sustainable, reliable and accessible tourism. Its Sustainable Tourism Awards were established following the United Nations declaration of 2002 to spotlight transformative practices worldwide.

As part of Hayleys PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s most diversified conglomerates, Hayleys Leisure manages a collection of renowned properties, including The Kingsbury, Amaya Resorts & Spas, The Boutique Collection by Amaya, Amuna Ayurveda & Wellness Resort, and The Fortress Resort & Spa. Through these brands, the Group continues to blend authentic Sri Lankan hospitality with a deep sense of responsibility to people and planet, setting new benchmarks for the future of travel.
