There were 5.39 million kg of tea on offer this week at the Colombo Tea Auction with improved demand as the Western BOPs and BOPFs saw prices going up.
Of the total teas on offer 2.25 million kg were Low Grown Main Grades and 1.82 million kg were High and Mid Grown Main Grades, the Asia Siyaka market report stated.
In the leafy and Semi Leafy catalogues a few select best BOP1/OP1s maintained, whilst best varieties were barely steady; below best together with poorer sorts declined. Select best OP/OPAs in general maintained, whilst others and poorer sorts declined following quality.
Improved demand at this week’s Ex-Estate auction with select best Western BOPs gained upto Rs.100; below best gained Rs.50 to RS.80 with the bottom firm to slightly dearer. Selet best and coloury Western BOPFs gained Rs.20 to Rs.50 and more, whilst others were firm. Hardly any Nuwara Eliyas were on offer. Udapussellawa BOPs were irregular and the BOPFs were about firm. Uva BOPs and BOPFs sold at last levels. Medium BOPs were firm to slightly dearer. BOPFs maintained. CTC BP1s and PF1s were about firm on last. (SD)
