SCAN GLOBAL LOGISTICS PUT THE FOOTPRINT IN SRI LANKA

Business

Sri Lanka officially became the 43rd country in the network when the Danish shipping giant Scan Global Logistics (SGL) official opened its Colombo office ‘Scan Global Logistics Colombo Pvt ltd’ at a fantastic gala ceremony to mark the occasion. Esteemed members from Air and Ocean carriers, customers and prominent members of the local community all attended to mark the occasion and celebrate with the newly formed team.

Sri Lanka had been on the radar of SGL for some time and despite the recent challenges facing the island nation, senior management remain extremely optimistic about the future ahead. Dhanushka Perera, Managing Director of the newly opened office, was quoted as saying ‘despite the unfortunate circumstances Sri Lanka has had to face over these last few months, our strategic placement in the region is unquestionable and we will continue to act as a pivotal location for transit cargo and value-added logistics services in the future.’

Dhanushka is very much on message. Sri Lanka continues to be the crossroads for major shipping routes and providing connectivity for important Air freight capacity, meaning the country continues to play a key role in the global logistical ecosystem. As well as being the bridge between East and West, Sri Lanka also has the benefit of being able to offer multi-modal and value-added services that are unique to Sri Lanka and are unable to be performed by neighboring nations. Dhanushka and the newly formed SGL team intend to take full advantage of those products and services that make Sri Lanka and SGL so unique.

Opening in Sri Lanka is also good news for some of SGL’s prominent fashion retail clients who utilize SGL to move garments and textiles around the globe. With the organization now turning the lights on in Sri Lanka, they can now engage with some of their clients on a much higher level, offering fully integrated multi-modal solutions and also offering local warehouse, fulfillment and regional distribution options.

Mr. Rickard Ingvarsson the CEO of Asia and Mr. Anders Johansen the Senior Business Development Director EMEA Ceremonially cut the cake at the gala cocktail while Mr. Dhanushka Perera the Managing Director of Scan Global Logistics Colombo Pvt Ltd celebrates it with them.

People and culture are a huge part of SGL’s success and growth. With the mantra that ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast’, the Danish trailblazer intends fully embrace the vibrant and eclectic passion that already exists within the Sri Lankan people to ensure the new office is a resounding success story. SGL is definitely on a steep growth trajectory but according to Dhanushka, ‘Despite having a rapidly growing network and new colleagues joining every day, SGL continues to remain true to its core values and beliefs’. ‘Fun, Integrity, Entrepreneurship and Respect are at the center of everything we do here, as here in Sri Lanka we fully intend to carry these principals forward and inject them into everything we do.’

Celebrations continued throughout last week and the Scan Global Logistics banners were fluttering in the afternoon breeze outside the brand-new office space in downtown Colombo.
