At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on July 19, at the Galle Face Hotel, Ajith de Silva was unanimously elected to the Chair of the MBA Alumni Association.
Ajith de Silva becomes the 28th President of the Association which commits its membership and all professionals to further education and assists the University in all its outreach programmes.
The highlight in their calendar is the platform they arrange for the business community and the highest government officials to analyze the annual appropriation measures so as to be of value to the community.
In addition, they create awareness in such areas as the environment, governance, accounting and finance and new technological advances. The professional community participates in these events because they are fundamentally knowledge sharing exercises bringing the latest information on the particular subject.
The members of the Association, all alumni of the university work in high decision-making positions in every brand of organisation. Thus, they are an integral part of the decision-making process of the country.
With the wide experience that Ajith brings into his role, the members are assured of a productive year. He is well-known in the boardroom and is able to harness talented business leaders’ practitioners and startups for programmes of the Association Further the theme for the year is connected to Inspire: Professionalism Powering Progress. Under this theme he has sufficient license to bring together a strong nexus between academia and trade and Commerce.
Ajith de Silva, an old boy of Seevali Central College, Ratnapura obtained his Bachelor’s degrade in Physics and mathematics from the University of Colombo in 2002, the Master of Business in Studies (MBS) Management of business administration (MBA) in 2010. He also obtained the post graduate diploma from National University of Singapore (NUS).
He is now reading for the degree in Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the Open University of Colombo. He has wide experience in sales and marketing in the automotive industry. He joined the Browns Group in 2014 and rose quickly to the position of General Manager. Today he is the cluster chief operating officer and manages a range of key brands including Exide Lucas Deganite hybrid care and key tyre brands. He oversees Sri Lanka's only aluminum Radiator plant. He is a Director of Associate Battery Manufacture Ceylon Limited (ABM).
At the Colombo MBA Alumni Association he held several positions, such as Treasurer, Chairman of the post budget forum, President and Deputy President. He is also President of Browns Sports Club and Vice President of Mercantile Hockey Association (MHA) and an Executive Committee member of Burger Recreation Club (BRC). He is married to Dilani Niroshani and is father to Janumi and Chenuthi.
Ravi Jayawardana, the CEO of Maliban Group was Chief Guest and Prof Indika Karunatilleke, the Vice Chancellor was Guest of Honour at the AGM.
