The Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital, Dr Rukshan Bellana today declared that he was prepared to face any disciplinary inquiry over the comments he made regarding the medical condition of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He said that until Tuesday evening, he has not been officially informed of any disciplinary action against him and so far only seen media reports about the inquiry.
Deputy Health Minister Dr Hansaka Wijemuni was earlier today quoted in the media that disciplinary action is to be initiated against Dr Belana for divulging information regarding the health condition of the former President.
Dr Bellana said that he was not the only person who provided updates about the health condition of Mr Wickremesinghe.
He said those comments were accurate updates and were given based on the actual situation.
He said it as unfortunate some of the media were trying to project that Mr Wickremesinghe was granted bail because of his comments.
A separate medical report signed by the doctors who treated Mr Wickremesinghe was sent to courts and the Magistrate had taken into consideration the official reports sent, before granting bail to the former President on Tuesday.
